It is common to hear priests objecting to judgments of Popes and clarifying that this or that judgment is “not infallible”. What’s stupid about this objection is that the judgment of the priest is also “not infallible”. As the Baltimore Catechism explained, the Pope does not sit at his desk and answer questions in isolation. He is surrounded by theologians and consultants on all of these matters. Most priests have no such privileges. It is far more likely that a priest’s judgment is in error than a Pope’s — and arguing “The Pope’s judgment is not infallible on this issue.” is irrational since the priest making the objection has even less claim to freedom from error.
By the way, I think any priest publishing homilies on YouTube is a problem. The homily is for the parish present, not the world. The priestly ministry is a local ministry.
