It is common for men to criticize Catholicism and complain, “Why do we need to confess our sins to men whenwe can confess them directly to God”?
This question answers itself.
The underlying premise is that one is focused on God directly and doesn’t need the involvement of other men to be so.
However, being focused on “God alone” is obviously not preventing the man from sinning against God. So his focus on “God alone” isn’t as strong as he pretends it is.
In fact, this is exactly why human involvement is necessary.
Many Christian men, who claim to believe in God, watch pornography. If another man was sitting next to them, they would not do so. They do so when they are isolated from all men. God is present, but that does not hinder them. A man present would hinder them.
So the talk of religion with “God alone” is false. That’s why God established religion to be conducted with other men.
